Spotted pardalotes are fairly common in my area of Australia but usually hard to see
because they spend most of their time high in gum trees where they feed on insects.
Unusually for birds, they often nest in holes they dig in the ground, as well as in tree hollows.
Most times I have had a good look at them is when I have walked past their nests at feeding time.
The chicks inside were chirping vigorously and glancing in that direction I see a little bird fly off into the trees.
The last two photos above were on such occasions.
The second last photo shows a parent bird perched on a branch with insects in its beak before flying down to the nest burrow.
The last photo is of a juvenile which was hanging around another nest.
Just about every time one of the parents came to feed the little ones inside the nest they chased off this one outside.
