As its name suggests, the Eurasian Coot is widespread throughout the world.
It can also be found near water across most of Australia.
The adult bird has completely black plumage, a white beak and shield, red eyes and black legs.
Interestingly, it has flaps along its toe segemts, which help it to swim.
It would seem its along the evolutionary path that ducks took to get fully webbed feet.
