Abundance &
This fungus seems quite rare as I have onoly encountered it three times in three years. It could occur in Nothofagus rainforest throughout south-eastern Australia, but possibly limited to Nothofagus cunninghamii in Victoria and Tasmania.
Habitat &
I have only found this species on fallen branches and twigs of Nothofagus cunninghamii in the mountains east of Melbourne.
DescriptionThese are orange discs with a diameter to around 5mm that grow on wood. The edge of the cup is darker but is also fringed with many evenly distributed tiny orange lobes. The short stipe is dark brown to black.
