Common Name=Birds Nest Fungi
Genus/Species=Nidula emodensis (Berk.) Lloyd 1906
Distribution=Moderately common around Victoria but quite widespread around Australia.
Substrate=Found on decaying woody material and bark on the ground.
Description=This aptly named fungus grows in grgarious colonies with mature fruiting bodies opening to form a "nest" around 5mm wide.
Inside are tiny, flat disc-like peridioles that contain the spores, which are readily dispersed by drops of rain.
