Sassafras Creek Fungi

13 June 2015

I walked about 12km today, from home to the Alfred Nicholas Memorial Gardens, and it took me over 7 hours. Although that included a lunch stop, it's pretty slow going but caused by constantly sticking my head in bushes looking for fungi. There wasn't actually that much around, otherwise I would have not gone so far, but I'm quite happy with what I found. First highlight was finding an old log covered with the rare Chlorovibrissea melanochlora fungus. Until a week earlier I hadn't seen any Chlorovibrissea species but last week I found Chlorovibrissea bicolor and now this one. I also found a rare toothed Auriscalpium mushroom species only a short distance further up the track.
